“It’s about future-proofing your household” | Creating an all-electric home

We'll only just have one bill moving forward which is just electricity, so we'll never have to worry about gas ever again.

My name is Shane, my wife and I live in Melbourne, and we've been on our electrification journey over the last five years.

100% electrification means no gas appliances so it's about thinking about having energy efficient electric appliances in your house instead.

The first step we decided was to install solar panels and for us we think of that as a catalyst um for changing everything else in the house over to electric appliances.

We've installed solar panels. We have the electric heat pump, and we have the electric vehicle and e-bikes.

We also installed a wall charger, so it doesn't cost us anything to charge your car at home.

The only thing that's left is the removal of our gas room heater and the gas cook top.

That's the only aspects that's left before we can disconnect the gas from the grid.

It's shocking, so in the last two months our usage is only $3, and the supply charge is $64.

So, it just is another driver for us to get rid of gas completely.

I predict in 5 to 10 years we will see a huge transition.

Everywhere that you look you will see solar pans on the roof, you will see electric vehicles, you will see um electric heat pumps.

It is a future and it's about future proofing your household and reducing your carbon footprints and obviously will reduce your cost dramatically as well.

It will take time.

There is a lot of support, there's a lot of incentives, and there's a lot of drive to move to 100% electrification.

That's just a nice feeling to understand that you're powering your house effectively by renewable energy and there's something quite satisfying about that.
