On 31 March, Minister for Solar Homes Lily D’Ambrosio launched a new training program aimed at upskilling electricians and providing a pathway for new Licensed Electrical Inspectors. See Cracking down on dodgy solar installers.
Update on electrical safety certificates post-installation
Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) is aware of delays customers may be experiencing in a Licensed Electrical Inspector inspecting and lodging a Certificate of Electrical Safety for newly installed solar systems.
Under the Electrical Safety (General) Regulations 2019, Licensed Electrical Workers are required to engage a Licensed Electrical Inspector to undertake the inspection of a solar installation within eight business days. The inspector has four business days to then lodge the certificate with ESV.
ESV understands that the impacts of the pandemic are likely to have contributed to backlogs in inspections. It is currently working to determine the extent of these delays.
Safety is our primary concern. If you’re a customer impacted by these delays, you cannot have your system turned on until it’s inspected by a Licensed Electrical Inspector and deemed safe.
We’re working with ESV to improve the timeliness of independent electrical inspections and to support households who have installed solar to gain their Certificate of Electrical Safety sooner.
In the meantime, we’re unfortunately unable to expedite inspections on a case-by-case basis for individual customers.
