Apply to have your new products included on our list so they can be installed under the Solar Homes Program.

Information on this page is relevant to Battery Systems (BS) and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) equipment manufacturers wanting to apply for their product/s to be included on the Solar Victoria battery product list.

About the list

Solar Victoria is committed to increasing the safety and quality of products and systems installed under its programs. Our battery product list helps to ensure home batteries deliver safety and quality for consumers and improve the stability of the energy grid.

Additional criteria must be met before a product can be included on the Solar Victoria battery product list. These technical criteria are the same as those previously required for listing on the Solar Victoria product list which was administered by the South Australian Government.

The criteria includes a focus on new products being virtual power plant ready, compatibility of batteries and inverters, and added consumer protections covering cybersecurity and extended warranty requirements.

To qualitfy for an interest-free solar battery loan in the Solar Homes Program, consumers must install a battery from the Solar Victoria battery list that has a capacity equal to or greater than 6kWh.

How to apply

Following your application to the Clean Energy Council approved products list, you can also apply for your product/s to be included on the Solar Victoria battery product list by following these two steps:

Step 1 – Check your product meets the additional criteria

Your product/s must meet five additional technical criteria (not assessed by the CEC) to be included on the Solar Victoria battery product list. Before applying, please first review the additional technical criteria and the supporting evidence we require of your product/s:

Criteria 1: System components

The manufacturer must provide a statement that major components (battery, inverter and smart controller if required) of the battery system shall be compatible with each other and list the combinations of components that will operate together.

Supporting evidence required: A statement identifying the manufacturer, model and version of major system components compatibility post-CEC assessment.

Criteria 2: Remote registration

The system shall support registration of the system via API to remote services (e.g. retailer, OEM, aggregator).

Supporting evidence required: A description of how the system can connect to and be registered with remote services, such as an API guide.

Criteria 3: Remote configuration

The system shall support remote changes to firmware and operational settings by authorised parties.

Supporting evidence required: A Technical Data Sheet indicating how the system supports remote changes.

Criteria 4: Cybersecurity

The system shall be designed to protect, to a suitable standard, against electronic intrusion and tampering by unauthorised parties (cybersecurity).

Supporting evidence required: A clear description of the system’s security measures, including password protection and encryption method.

Criteria 5: Warranty (minimum requirements)

At a minimum, the following warranty periods shall apply:

  • Battery Energy Storage System or Battery System: 7 years under daily cycling operation.
  • Inverter: 5 years.
  • Balance of system: 5 years.
  • Whole of system: 5 years.

Supporting evidence required: A statement of warranty period that applies to each component and the whole system.

The technical criteria above were first developed by the South Australian Department of Energy and Mining in collaboration with the Australian Energy Market Operator, Australian Renewable Energy Agency, SA Power Networks and industry. They are not intended to address any other scheme requirements which may apply.

Step 2 – Email us to apply

If your product meets the additional technical criteria, please email your request to apply to our Industry Development and Technology Team at: battery.products@delwp.vic.gov.au.

We will then email you with documentation to complete and execute with an authorised party. You will need to email this documentation to us for each eligible battery product.

In completing and signing the statutory declaration, the manufacturer agrees that its product meets the additional technical criteria and understands the information provided may be shared with relevant regulators and product testers to ensure product safety and compliance.

Your application will be assessed only when all the required supporting documents have been submitted. Please also make sure the brand and model numbers are consistent in all supporting documents.

Next steps

We will assess your application. Provided a complete application is submitted, our assessment of your application should take up to 10 business days.

A member of our Industry Development and Technology team will contact you if the documentation contains insufficient detail and more information is required.

If the documentation is approved, the product will be added to the Solar Victoria battery product list. The list is usually uploaded weekly to this website. See product lists for our programs.
